In an attempt to respond to yet another letter task of Cambridge English: Proficiency, I couldn't but refer to my real-life experience.

Dear
Sir/Madam,
I read the announcement in yesterday’s issue asking readers to send personal accounts
of their first endeavor at something new. Last year the steadily growing numbers on the scales left much to be desired whenever I stepped on them. With my sedentary work coupled with an unhealthy diet, I couldn’t but
continue gaining weight. However, it wasn’t until the grievous consequences of
that lifestyle started to tell on my health that I decided to seriously take
the matter in hand. My first step was to enroll in a fitness club and seek
professional help for nutrition.
Randomly choosing
one of the nearby fitness centers suggested by Google, little
did I know what was in store for me. My journey to a drastic transformation
started with an acquaintance with my coach, Tanya, who proved to be both a
distinguished fitness coach and a dietician. Never before had I met such a
competent specialist; even less so, had I trained professionally. In addition, she had the personal qualities that resonated with my nature. With a strong personality and well-balanced
conduct, she emanated reassurance.
As weeks
went by, my transformation advanced at an exponential speed. I was thrilled to bits at my
results and the rapturous praise my friends started showering me with. Uplifting though it all
seemed, the rapid physical transformation was not the only benefit I reaped: I became more organized in my daily
routine and, ultimately, developed stamina for strenuous tasks ranging
from working relentlessly on the computer to burning the midnight oil preparing
for my exam.
Now that the most arduous journey is left behind, returning to my previous condition is utterly inconceivable to me. Not only are regular exercise and a healthy diet inextricably linked to my life, but also, sticking to them gives helps me to retain the sense of accomplishment. It goes beyond saying that this experience served as a turning point in my self-perception.
Yours sincerely,
Jessica Ogan
