Introduction

The principal aim of this report is to present survey results of political science class students regarding their voting practices.

Voter involvement and reasons

Ten out of the thirty students surveyed claimed to abstain from voting due to their personal beliefs about the local policy. The other twenty students actively participate in elections, for they trust in the ability to influence the outcome of elections. None of these students identified themselves as members of political parties.

As regards the students’ preference for a certain policy, only five out of twenty claimed to cast their votes according to their support for single issues, with green policy being the primary issue of concern. The remaining fifteen voters base their decisions on overall views of political parties, since this enables them to analyze and evaluate a political candidate’s stance on different issues.

Sources of information

When asked how they familiarize themselves with domestic issues and political candidates, twenty-two out of the thirty students answered they normally access internet resources. The daily feed of online newspaper ‘Politics Today’ ranks as the most visited website, being the choice of thirteen students. The remaining eight students from the class attend public hall meetings, where they hear political candidates pitching on domestic issues and upcoming legislations.

Conclusion

To summarize, 2/3 of the political science class show active participation in elections. Half of the class judge and evaluate political candidates’ perspectives on different societal issues. And the internet proves to be the main source of information when it comes to keeping abreast of domestic issues and learning about politicians.
