This time, I am sharing a report written by a colleague whom I am helping prepare for the CAE exam. The report is so well-written that I couldn’t resist publishing it. You can see some of my comments in blue.
Your school wants to increase the percentage of its students studying art subjects to advanced level. The head teacher has asked you to write a report on attitudes towards the arts among the students.
Your report should evaluate the appeal of art at the school, explain why comparatively few students want to become artists, and suggest ways of encouraging more of them to consider a future career in the arts. Write your report.
Write your report.
Art in schools and career
Nowadays there is concern about a lack of interest in art as a school subject or future career. The aim of this report is to evaluate students` attitudes towards art and put forward ideas for improving the image of it.
Art is considered to be a creative type of subject and many students gifted in visual taste tend to opt for it as an extra class. They enjoy using a variety of tools in the process of art creation (the creation of art), guidance of a teacher and support from peers in bright, well-maintained studios. Thus, such lessons open up their nature, broaden horizons and offer a possibility to express their feelings through hand-made objects.
However, not a lot of students favor art as a choice for a future career. Many believe that a special talent is obligatory when starting this job and very often are afraid to try. Moreover, there is a wide-spread (no hyphen)misconception that doing art is underpaid, not serious enough and will not be in demand in the society. The fast development of AI adds up to the problem, wrongly suggesting the idea that a real artist`s job might be no longer needed. Many are discouraged by the negative image of an artist from books and media.
To encourage children to take up art the following recommendations should be followed: promoting the idea of unique vision of every person and eliminating fears to start; helping young artists in the beginning of their way by giving grants and conducting workshops showcasing how AI can be implemented into the creation process without replacing it. Should these suggestions be taken into consideration – the artist`s job will hopefully be one of the most desirable and prestigious in the society (in society).
Content – 5: All content points have been fully addressed. The response meets the task requirements in every respect.
Communicative Achievement – 5: The register is appropriately formal throughout. Ideas flow smoothly and coherently between paragraphs, and the reader is informed clearly and comprehensively. The communicative purposes—explaining and suggesting—are fulfilled effectively.
Organisation – 4 or 5: The paragraphs are linked seamlessly, and you make good use of a range of cohesive devices (some of which I highlighted in yellow). To further strengthen the structure, remember to include headings for each paragraph. Also, pay careful attention to punctuation.
Language – 5: You demonstrate a strong command of high-level vocabulary (e.g., lack of interest, put forward ideas, obligatory) and a wide range of grammatical structures (e.g., should be followed; should these suggestions be taken into account; wrongly suggesting).
